Alongside such novels as War and Peace and Anna Kerenina, Tolstoy wrote A Confession, What is Art?, and his non-fiction magnum opus, The Kingdom of God Is Within You, a work that endures as a blueprint for Christian anarchism and philosophies of "non-resistance", and which profoundly affected the young Mohandas Gandhi, inspiring him to take his first steps down the path of non-violent and successful resistance to colonial British rule in India.
